Must show military ID or driver’s license. No exceptions - even if they are a month away from being 65 years old.

  • Fosters receive a $50 discount when adopting their foster dogs.

  • Grey Face Rescue does not adopt outside of Minnesota UNLESS the dog has been waiting 3+ months for any interest and the application if phenomenal (this decision is at the discretion of the Adoption Manager)

  • We do not adopt animals to families whose current dogs are not up-to-date on vaccinations or not altered. Exceptions may be made for medical reasons as stated by a veterinarian and we will require proof of that recommendation. The ONLY exception is indoor cats. If the indoor cats do not go outside, we will make exceptions, however, they do need to have a history of veterinary care for the cat (i.e. has been seen by a vet in the past 5 years)

ADOPTION PROCESS

APPLICATION RECEIVED & REVIEWED

Potential adopter applies online for a Grey Face Rescue animal and the applicant receives an automated email sent from RescueGroups. (Automatically assigned to Adoption Manager)
Send an email template appropriate for the applicant.

  1. SEND APP(S) TO FOSTER

Fosters are responsible for the interview and meet & greet for the dog. Copy & paste the ADOPTION APPLICATION FOSTER TEMPLATE to an email and attach potential apps (3 maximum). Foster are expected to conduct the interview within 2-3 days of the application being sent via email. If they do not return within a reasonable timeframe then the process is forwarded to another individual.

  1. RETRIEVE NOTE FROM FOSTER

Get input from the foster and the potential adopter about how the meeting went. Discuss any concerns, answer any outstanding questions.

If the family chooses not to adopt, start the process again with the next potential family.

  1. HOME VISIT

Send HOME VISIT EMAIL TEMPLATE to potential adopters. Once received and approved, notify foster family that the contract and fee will be sent.

Application is assigned to Adoption Coordinator

Adoption Return

At times, the match is NOT made in heaven and the animal will need to be returned to Grey Face Rescue.

As stated in the Adoption Agreement signed by the adopting family,

b. If for any reason, at any point during The Pet’s lifetime, Adopter is unable to provide care for The Pet, Adopter agrees to return The Pet to Grey Face Rescue. Adopter shall not give or sell The Pet to any third party – even a family member or close friend – without the express prior written consent of Grey Face. If The Pet is returned to Grey Face, no refunds are given for adoption fees or any expenses Adopter incurred relating to The Pet while in Adopter’s care.

c. Adopter is asked to deliver The Pet to the Grey Face Headquarters located in St. Joe no sooner than 72 hours from notifying our Adoption team to return. If a foster is not found within 72 hours, you may be asked to care for the animal longer until a foster home is found.”

Once we receive the notification that the adopting family would like to return the Grey Face Rescue animal, the adoption team will contact the previous foster to see if they would be willing to accept the animal back into their family.

If the foster family is willing to accept the Grey Face Rescue animal back into their home, we can schedule the intake appointment. Intake will take place at the Grey Face Rescue office and include the foster family, adopters and an Intake Coordinator (see list of Intake Coordinators here). Prior to intake appointment, adopters must sign the surrender contract.

If the foster is no longer able or willing to take the foster animal back, we will need to post for a new foster. It does state in the agreement, “If a foster is not found within 72 hours, you may be asked to care for the animal longer until a foster home is found.” Until we find a foster, we can provide advice on how to make the situation more comfortable until we find a foster.

If it becomes an immediate need for a foster, we can board the animal at NC’s Doghouse in Sauk Rapids but it will require a bordetella vaccination which will need to be scheduled at a partner veterinary clinic prior to their arrival.
