WHAT WE DO
Grey Face Rescue & Retirement focuses on animals age 7 and older. We accept all seniors into our rescue and hospice care. We don't discriminate against specific breeds, medical conditions, behaviors or history – we believe all seniors deserve a second chance. Our volunteers work tirelessly to match each of our seniors with a specific foster for their continued care. We also seek special and educated adopters to give our seniors there forever homes.

OUR MISSION
Grey Face Rescue strives to educate and strengthen the bond between families and pets to avert the need for rescue in later years. If rescue is needed, we provide exceptional care to ensure all animals are respected and valued and that they live with comfort and dignity through foster, hospice, and adoption programs.

COMMUNICATION

There are many ways we communicate with our volunteers about different opportunities with Grey Face Rescue.

Grey Face Rescue Approved Volunteer + Foster Group
This is our private group that includes only approved fosters and volunteers. You must go through the application and approval process in order to join.

Grey Face Rescue Senior Animal Crew Facebook Group
This is a private group with members from all over the country that support our mission. In this group we post animals needing foster care, supplies we would like donated, volunteer opportunities if we are unable to find it within our approved group and general information about Grey Face Rescue and upcoming needs.

Email
We will communicate needs through email, as well.

Events

Volunteers are crucial for the success of an event. They help the event run smoothly and ensure that every attendee has a wonderful experience. Although volunteering is a great way to help the animals, have fun and meet like-minded people, it’s also hard work.

Event opportunities are posted on the GFR&R Army Facebook Group Event Tab along with included in the weekly volunteer email.

REFERENCE CALLS

Every dog deserves a good home: one that will provide stability, comfort, friendship and safety in addition to basic needs such as food, shelter and medical care. Screen potential dog adopters by querying them and their references with carefully chosen questions that will provide insight into the environment in which the dog would be kept if it were adopted.

Personal Reference Calls
Vet Reference Calls

In these references, you will receive details on how to proceed with the reference checks for both the personal references and veterinary references, following the reference checks, please send a detailed email to adoption@greyfacerescue.org.

HOME VISIT

What makes GFR&R different is how we care for our animals. Each potential foster & adopter must be reviewed to ensure our dogs go to a safe and loving home. We rely on our volunteers to visit potential fosters/adopters and ensure they and their home is ready to adopt or foster a pet. Home checks are essential to the safety of our seniors and we rely on the perspective of our volunteer.

Prior to completing a home check, you will work with a member of our leadership team to discuss what we are looking for in a foster and/or adopters home and items to discuss.

Just a friendly reminder: When you work closely with animals, you can sometimes be bitten, scratched or injured in another way. Your safety is always our priority, but if you do happen to get hurt, please let a GFR&R staff member or manager know immediately.

TRANSPORTS

An easy but rewarding volunteer opportunity is transporting dogs to and from vetting appointments, from surrender to foster, to and from events - hey, sometimes our pups (and kitties) just need to hitch a ride! Before transporting a dog, read through our TRANSPORT MANUAL to get some tips and tricks on a successful car ride.

Kennels, blankets + leashes are available at the Grey Face Rescue office in St. Cloud.

Spreading our Mission

Being apart of the army doesn’t mean to have to foster, attend events, complete home visits or transports - you can simply help spread our mission through social media and word of mouth! There are several ways to promote Grey Face Rescue and support our senior animals. Here are some ways to contribute:

  • SHARE our Facebook posts. If you haven’t “liked” our Facebook page yet, do that now! Share our adoptable dogs, dogs needing fosters, upcoming events and more! There may be many people that you are friends with on Facebook whom haven’t heard of Grey Face.

  • Host a Facebook fundraiser! With THIS LINK, you will be able to easily create a fundraiser for Grey Face Rescue & Retirement. Share it with supporters and encourage them to help you raise money on Facebook.

  • Host a fundraiser at work! It could be penny wars, $5 jean day, bake sale, you name it! Ask a Grey Face member for some ideas!
